In the 2001 film The Majestic, a blacklisted 1951 Hollywood screenwriter named Peter Appleton (Jim Carrey) gets amnesia after a car crash and is mistaken by a small California town for Luke Trimble, a local World War II hero missing in action. He helps reopen the town's movie theater before his past catches up with him.
