The 1984 romantic fantasy comedy film Splash tells the story of Allen Bauer (Tom Hanks), a stressed businessman who reunites with a mermaid (Daryl Hannah). As a boy, Allen was saved from drowning by a young mermaid at Cape Cod. Twenty years later, she returns to New York City to find him, and the two fall in love.
