Acclaimed DIY Americana-meets-Rock duo, Shovels & Rope, are blazing across the Idaho Panhandle this Fall!Husband-and-wife duo Shovels & Rope hail from the South Carolina low country, & have spent well over a decade crafting a gritty, genre-blurring sound that mixes folk, rock, country, and punk influences. Trading harmonies and MANY instruments throughout their sets, Michael Trent and Cary Ann Hearst deliver live shows that feel both deeply personal and high-energy.

The duo first broke through with their acclaimed album O’ Be Joyful, earning praise for songs that balance heartache, humor, and Southern grit. Since then, they’ve continued to evolve through a steady run of 10 celebrated releases and relentless touring, building a loyal fanbase along the way.

Fans can expect a set where the artists leave everything on the stage, a highly personal and energetic show filled with favorites like “Birmingham” and “I Know,” alongside newer material that showcases the duo’s ever-evolving sound and songwriting.

When describing their latest release, Something is Working, the rules were simple: "only use what we work with live and whatever we put down on tape must be accomplishable on a stage in a live setting. That’s always seemed to be when we’re at our best. Or most twitchy. Many times we’ve made records that we loved and then, after figuring out how we’d perform it live, we end up falling in love with the live arrangement because being a 2-piece band it took some real risk and struggle which led to innovation which gave it a whole new life ... So with this one we just started there and worked backwards. The result encapsulates, more than anything we’ve done before, the sound of our live performance." Resulting in what one might consider by definition, a definitive album.
